I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of Your Excellency's letter 9303/07 Confidential, dated 22nd.

instant with reference to the appointment of Mr. Melbourne to he

Deputy Registrar and Appraiser and in reply to state that y

opposition to the appointment was based upon ry own somewhat

limited opportunities of observation of Mr. Melbourne's work.

In view of the recommendation of the

Registrar and of the opinion of two prominent members of the

legal profession whom I subsequently consulted I desired at the

interview I had with Your Excellency to withdraw my opposition.

I should not have troubled Your Excellency upon the subject had

I been aware when I spoke to the Chief Justice that Mr. Kerp

had already been consulted.
